  • Structure of the Procedures

The Policies and Procedures section of this website contains Sunderland Safeguarding Adults Executive Board's Policies and Procedures, collectively known as the 'Sunderland Safeguarding Adults Multi-Agency Procedures'.

In the Multi-Agency Procedures, Values and Principles are located in Chapter 1, section 1.1: The National Context, the Personalisation Agenda and Underlying Values & Principles; and also in Chapter 2, section 2.1: SSAB - Role and Function, with which users are required to familiarise themselves before proceeding to the main body of the Manual.

The Manual is divided into different chapters, which can be accessed via the Contents button.

    • Planned Updates

This manual will be fully reviewed and updated as necessary every 3 years. Other changes may be made before the 3-yearly review point occurs, dependent on any significant amendment or review of local or national policy or procedure, or any statutory amendments/issues (changes to law). For further information please contact strategic.safeguarding@sunderland.gov.uk
      • Keywords

The manual is accessed by practitioners from varying agencies, who may find terms that they are not familiar with. Therefore, a large glossary (Keywords) of terms is available such as Adult at Risk (try it: click on the highlighted text). We call them 'Keywords'. Once clicked, the definitions will appear in a new window or tab, depending on your browser. You can leave it open for reference, or close it using the "close" button at the bottom.
        • Search

We have provided a Search function, available from the relevant button on the left hand menu bar. This will enable you to search for information in chapters. You may have to try different or alternative spellings/terms before you get the result you are looking for.
          • Amendments

Where a chapter is new or has been amended, it will be noted as such at the top of each chapter.
            • Printing and Retaining Copies

The Procedures should normally be viewed online but can be printed, for reference only. To print a chapter, click on the print icon on your internet browser, this will print the page you are viewing. Please note, the Procedures will be regularly updated and agencies/professionals using printed copies of the manual are responsible for ensuring that they are using only the current (most up-to-date) version. You should ensure that the date of printing is set to automatically appear on printed copies. The electronic version of the manual shows clearly the date of the current version. If you are unsure, you must check that you are using the current version. Copies may not be used for any other purpose without the prior written consent of the Sunderland Safeguarding Adults Executive Board.
